SNAP Benefits Eligibility Reminder

Snap benefits reminder
  • August 6, 2024

The previous COVID flexibilities regarding establishing eligibility for SNAP benefits have expired. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) provides food benefits to those who qualify to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being. The eligibility requirements for benefits were adjusted during COVID, but many of those adjustments have now expired.

At a high level, college students must meet at least one of the following exemptions:

  • Work an average at least 20 hours a week (off-campus job)
  • Approved for federal work-study (federal work-study on your award letter)
  • Take care of a child under 12 (with exceptions)
  • Receive CalWORKs

If this is a benefit you've been taking advantage of, or would like to explore, here are two links to help:
