A Year in Review: Life West Nebraska 2024
As 2024 draws to a close, we reflect on a monumental year at Life West Nebraska. It has been a time of growth, resilience, and community-building for students, faculty, and staff alike. Let’s look back on some of the highlights that defined this year.
Welcoming New Students
January 2024 marked the arrival of our 2nd cohort of 16 students, bringing fresh energy to our campus. October saw the addition of our 3rd cohort, a testament to our continued growth and the vibrant chiropractic community we are building. We were also thrilled to host preceptor students from the Hayward campus, who contributed valuable experiences and insight to our learning environment.
Weathering the Storms
This year brought its share of challenges, particularly with the weather. A blizzard during the first week of January classes tested everyone’s resolve, moving us to online zoom learning, while in April & May multiple severe weather outbreaks, including tornadoes that struck uncomfortably close to home, reminded us of the importance of resilience and community support.
Engaging Events and Activities
Our campus came alive with numerous events throughout the year:
- First In-Person Seminar: Dr. Heidi Haavik captivated attendees with her expertise, marking a significant milestone for our campus.
- Spring for Life Event: This student-driven initiative fostered camaraderie as cohorts competed and invited guest speakers to campus, creating an inspiring and dynamic atmosphere.
- Guest Speakers: We were privileged to host an incredible lineup of in-person speakers, including:
- Dr. Beth Zogg, granddaughter of Dr. Clay Thompson, founder of the Thompson Technique.
- Drs. Kenkel & Pitts from the Iowa Chiropractic Society.
- Drs. Paula Wiese & Melissa Waszak of Pinnacle Chiropractic Systems.
- Dr. Mark Mauw & Dr. Alan Lovejoy, who shared their chiropractic insights.
Building Community
Community has been at the heart of Life West Nebraska this year. Students enjoyed fellowship and fun with:
- Hot Cocoa Bar & Goody Days: Student Council organized these delightful treats, brightening days and fostering connections in the common area.
- Friendsgiving and Pizza Nights: These events offered opportunities for students to relax, share laughs, and build lifelong friendships.
- Golf Tournament Fundraiser: Hosted by the Student Council, this successful event showcased the creativity and drive of our students.
Hands-On Learning
The Technology Training Center continued to be a hub of innovation as students honed their skills on the Force Sensing table. This hands-on training is an integral part of preparing students for their chiropractic careers.
Campus Visits and Collaboration
We were honored by visits from our Hayward campus leadership, including President Dr. Ron Oberstein & Vice President of Institutional Advancement - Dr. Peter Kevorkian, Vice President Dr. Marilyn Al-Hassan, Dean of Students Dr. Adam Thompson, and Provost Dr. Scott Donaldson. Their support and presence reinforced the strong connection between campuses.
Faculty Growth
2024 was a year of growth in our faculty team. We welcomed Dr. Luye Yang and Dr. Sarah Santo Domingo as full-time faculty members in the Basic Sciences department, along with additional growth in adjunct faculty. Their dedication to the student body and commitment to creating a positive learning environment have been invaluable. In the last quarter of the year, we added an Academic Chair, Dr. Sarah Gaughan, whose educational background equips her to ensure curriculum congruence between both campuses and support faculty growth in their positions.
Looking Ahead
As we prepare to welcome 2025, we carry forward the spirit of collaboration, resilience, and growth that defined this past year. Life West Nebraska is more than a campus—it’s a community where students thrive, friendships flourish, and the future of chiropractic takes shape. Here’s to another incredible year ahead!
