Throughout the month of May, the Life West community came together to recognize Mental Health Awareness Month through a series of activities, resources, and wellness initiatives centered around this year's theme: Reset, Recharge, Reconnect.
Mental health plays a vital role in our overall well-being, influencing how we think, feel, connect with others, and navigate the challenges of daily life. Prioritizing mental wellness not only benefits us as individuals but also strengthens our campus community, workplace culture, and ability to support one another.
Over the course of the month, faculty and staff were encouraged to participate in activities designed to promote self-care, mindfulness, connection, and healthy habits.
Starting with Gratitude
We kicked off the month with our Gratitude Wall, inviting employees to share words of appreciation, encouragement, and recognition for colleagues. Throughout the month, the wall became a visual reminder of the kindness, support, and positive impact our community members have on one another.
Participants also enjoyed a small wellness giveaway featuring stickers and dark chocolate—a simple way to spread positivity and brighten the workday.
Resetting Our Spaces
During our Desk Reset and Declutter Day, faculty and staff were encouraged to refresh and reorganize their workspaces. Employees stopped by the Staff Lounge to pick up organizing supplies and workplace wellness resources while learning about the connection between organized environments, reduced stress, and improved focus.
Sometimes, a small change in our surroundings can create a meaningful shift in our mindset.
Practicing Mindfulness
One of the month's highlights was our Sound Bath and Meditation Session, where employees took time to slow down, breathe, and recharge. Participants enjoyed guided meditation experiences, relaxation opportunities, and light refreshments while exploring mindfulness techniques that can help reduce stress and support emotional well-being.
These moments of pause served as a reminder that self-care doesn't always require major changes—sometimes a few intentional minutes can make a meaningful difference.
Connecting Through Community
We wrapped up the month with our Treat Yourself Day Ice Cream Social and Snack Bar. Faculty and staff gathered to enjoy sweet treats, connect with colleagues, and celebrate the collective effort made throughout Mental Health Awareness Month.
Events like these remind us that social connection and supportive relationships are important components of overall wellness. Taking time to connect, laugh, and share experiences with one another helps foster a stronger and more connected campus community.
Looking Ahead
While Mental Health Awareness Month may be over, the importance of mental health continues year-round. We encourage all members of our community to continue practicing healthy habits, utilizing available resources, setting boundaries, checking in with themselves and others, and prioritizing their overall well-being.
Thank you to everyone who participated, contributed to the Gratitude Wall, attended activities, completed the Wellness Challenge, and helped make this month's initiatives meaningful and impactful.
Together, we can continue creating a culture that values wellness, connection, and support.
