Mastering the Art of Thompson Technique: Dr. Beth Zogg Visits Nebraska

  • March 5, 2025

The Life West Nebraska campus had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Beth Zogg for a special Friday Seminar, which provided a hands-on Thompson Technique workshop. Dr. Zogg, the granddaughter of Dr. Clay Thompson—the founder of the renowned Thompson Technique—brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with students eager to refine their skills in this precise and analytical chiropractic approach.

The workshop catered to students at all skill levels, offering a hands-on application and a deeper understanding of the Thompson Technique analysis. Dr. Zogg emphasized a fundamental principle of the technique: Chasing the Derefield. This approach ensures that the analysis leads chiropractors directly to the area requiring correction without fail, making it an invaluable tool in patient care.

Key Takeaways from Dr. Zogg’s Workshop:

  • Utilization of the Terminal Point Table: The Thompson Technique relies on a specialized drop table designed to assist in precise and effective adjustments.
  • Newton’s First Law of Motion in Chiropractic Care:
    • “An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.”
    • This principle underlines how an adjustment corrects subluxations by addressing unbalanced forces affecting the body.
  • Leg Checks as a Foundational Analysis Tool:
    • A contracted leg (short leg) serves as a critical indicator of subluxation.
    • Analysis follows a neurological hierarchy: Cervical → Sacral → Ilium → Lumbar → Thoracic.
    • The greatest neurological impact must be assessed first for an accurate and effective adjustment.
  • Understanding Subluxation and the Contracted Leg Relationship: Proper analysis and correction of a contracted leg can lead to profound changes in the patient’s overall function and well-being.

Dr. Zogg’s visit provided an invaluable learning experience for Life West Nebraska students, reinforcing the importance of analysis-driven chiropractic care. The hands-on workshop allowed participants to practice and perfect their application of the Thompson Technique, leaving them more confident in their ability to serve their future patients.

As Life West Nebraska continues to foster growth and learning in chiropractic education, visits from experienced professionals like Dr. Zogg inspire students to deepen their understanding and commitment to principled chiropractic care. We look forward to more workshops that continue to elevate our students’ expertise and passion for chiropractic!
