Throughout August, Life West Nebraska faculty and staff laced up their walking shoes and took on the Walk to Hayward Challenge—a month-long wellness initiative designed to get our campus moving.
The challenge came with an ambitious goal: 1,682 combined miles, representing the journey from Nebraska to the Life Chiropractic College West campus in Hayward, California.
While we didn’t quite make it all the way to Hayward, our faculty and staff still logged an impressive 925 combined miles! That distance took us across Nebraska, through Wyoming and the Rocky Mountains, and nearly all the way to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Faculty and staff found creative ways to add movement throughout their days. Some used quick breaks between classes and meetings to get in extra steps, while others made walking part of their daily routines. Participants tracked their progress using pedometers provided for the challenge, smartwatches, and other activity trackers.
By the end of August, our team had completed approximately 55% of the 1,682-mile goal. More importantly, the challenge encouraged our faculty and staff to step away from their desks, get moving, and make physical activity part of the workday.
Although Hayward remained a little farther down the road, 925 miles is an accomplishment worth celebrating. Together, our faculty and staff virtually traveled from Nebraska to nearly Salt Lake City—one step at a time.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated in the August Walk to Hayward Challenge! Maybe next time, we’ll make it all the way to California!
