D+I Symposium coming this spring

Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and inclusion are essential to fulfilling our Lasting Purpose, to give, do, love, and serve out of our own abundance. That’s why the Diversity and Inclusion Committee is hosting a virtual Spring Symposium in 2021, and the whole Life West community is invited!

Help us create energy for improving our campus culture and introducing the D&I Accountability Framework, a three-year cycle of inquiry fostering systemic change, cultural competency and in-house training. Participants will share resources and best practices that have helped them become champions for diversity and inclusion, and lessons learned along the way. Participants will openly discuss the realities of inequality and how to confront and respond to uncomfortable issues.

Our goal is to establish a culture of evidence to track progress of the college’s efforts to promote a climate of inclusive excellence, as well as the accountability measures that such a journey entails. To achieve this goal, all departments, faculty, and student organizations need to own the diversity and inclusivity in their respective areas, as it aligns to the college’s strategic plan with reference to individual department annual plans.

We ask for your support for this event. Details of the Spring Symposium will be sent out in February. Prior to that, we will send a D&I Symposium pre-survey on Monday, Jan. 11, that will remain open through Sunday, Jan. 31. Your survey participation will greatly help us in planning the Symposium. All you need to do is fill it out and hit return.

We appreciate each and every one of you.
