    Dear JED Campus Team Member,

Students, faculty, and staff at your school might currently be experiencing burnout, or feelings similar to burnout, due to the pandemic and its disruptions to campus life, instruction, and the college experience for over a year. For some, the stress of this ongoing pandemic may feel too difficult to manage. We hear from JED Campuses and other schools about students not showing up to class, even at the beginning of the semester or quarter. We hear from students that they feel dismay and frustration surrounding the limited time off they’ve received, as scattered wellness days feel insufficient to replace the loss of spring break.

These are not issues we will solve immediately. In fact, even as we sustain our efforts to protect the mental health of our students through the end of this academic year, we anticipate a potential rise in mental health issues like PTSD, anxiety, depression, complicated grief, and unhealthy coping habits during the fall as we collectively transition as a society into our “new normal.”

So what can we do? You and the other 2,500+ professionals who have committed to the JED Campus approach of campus-wide efforts to protect the emotional health of your students also belong to a national effort and community of support to protect the campus mental health of students, faculty, and staff alike. As with each of our newsletters, we invite you to join us via the opportunities below so we can work together to collect the student data, promising practices, and strategies we’ll need to respond as mental health issues may continue to increase due to the pandemic. We are here for you and your campus team as we help support your students. Your work is valuable and essential—thank you for all you are doing.

    Yours in health,

    JED Campus
