SNAP Benefits (food stamps) – Eligibility Reminder
The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) opened up another temporary avenue for a student to qualify for SNAP benefits. Currently a student is eligible to apply for SNAP benefits if they have a federal work study award (does not require the student to be working) or a caregiver for a dependent child. NEW: In addition, a student with a Zero EFC (Expected Family Contribution) figure on their FAFSA is now eligible to apply for SNAP benefits. This change will last for the duration of the federal public health emergency. The EFC figure is based on the income/asset information that you reported on your FAFSA form.
How do I find out if I have a Zero EFC: This information is on your Student Aid Report (this form can be submitted as documentation when applying for the benefits), see below:
- Go to https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa .
- Select Returning User
- Select View Your Student Aid Report
- Log in
- Select the 2021-22 FAFSA
- Scroll down and select View/print your Student Aid Report
- The EFC figure is below your SSN
- Print page (if applying for benefits)
