10 Ways to Celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month

MTV partners with JED in a documentary exploration of youth mental health through the eyes of young people who have attempted suicide or have struggled with suicidal thoughts

Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in May in the United States since 1949. For some of our schools, May has been filled with programming like on-campus film screenings about mental health, wellness fairs, and other in-person events to support opportunities for connection with our students. While we all continue to be flexible in our approach to campus events, there are ways for us to continue hosting events like these virtually. You can check out JED’s 10 Ways to Celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month resource for some ideas and to learn more about JED events like their upcoming webinar on Each and Every Day on May 20, 2021 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM EDT. This webinar features Sheila and Alexandra, as well as Senior Director of Knowledge & Advising Janis Whitlock, Ph.D., M.P.H., and JED Storyteller Saniya Soni, in conversation about the purpose of film, major takeaways from the production process/behind-the-scenes experiences, and the importance of highlighting conversations about suicide specifically at this moment in our nation.

Stay tuned for a showing of Each and Every Day at the Life West Campus.

*Each and Every Day contains mature mental and suicide health-related themes and content. Viewers with personal experience with suicide or mental health experiences / challenges are advised to be sure that they have adequate self-support readily available. Viewers younger than 16 years of age may benefit from viewing with an adult present or nearby.
