Students hit the links at local golf tournament

Life West held a golf tournament for students on Saturday, Nov. 21, at Redwood Canyon Golf Course. Turnout was robust, and students had a great time competing for prizes on the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday.

“The new Sports Council initiative is taking shape and providing opportunities for student staff and faculty,” Life West Athletics Director Adriaan Ferris said. “I want to extend my gratitude to Student Council Sports Rep Nolan Halverson, Student Golf Club President Christopher Nguyen, and advisor Dr. George Casey for their collaborative efforts to make the golf tournament successful, especially during these challenging times. We helped enhance the sense of community for the Life West family.”

Ferris added that he was pleased the event went off without a hitch despite last-minute changes necessitated by the Alameda County public health order.

The foursome of Mason Stahley, Donal Macmullin, Brett Sesma, and Matt Queiroga took first place with an eight-under-par score and won a $400 prize. Zach Erickson, Stefan Sanchez, Dakota Turgeon, and Zack Soufl finished second at six-under and pocketed $300, while Clint Clifford, Nolan Halverson, Fraser Oliver, and Bronston Kopala checked in third at four-under to win $200.

Oliver, Turgeon, Steven Barham, Zack Chak, and Archie Bayacal won “closest to the pin” contests for bookstore vouchers and sleeves of golf balls. Kopala and Shyler Howe, meanwhile, took down “longest drive” contests to win prizes including polo shirts and a dozen golf balls.

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all who participated!
