Life West Softball Club create Intramural “Season Opener”

On Sunday 30th May, the Student Softball Club hosted an internal “Season Opener” at Los Cerritos Community Park in Fremont, CA. Like so many of the Life West Club Sports over the past 12+ months, the Softball Club have been playing a waiting game for the season to commence.

Speaking of the timing of the event, Softball Club Sports Council Representative, Lauren Stefaniuk mentioned “This game has been a long time coming, and we have chose the perfect weekend to restart the program.”

Pitched (pun not intended) as an opportunity for new and old club members to reconnect out on the diamond, the event saw over 35 people in attendance, with most getting a chance to step up to the plate.

With prizes up for grabs courtesy of Student Council, recent graduate Dr. Kristyn Chavez took home the female Home Run Derby, for the biggest hit of the day; with fellow alum Dr. Ben Murphy and current student Brett Sesma both tieing for the Male Home Run Derby.

All in all, the Softball “Opener” saw current and former students spend time contesting a memorable Memorial Day Weekend event, with the club registering new members and gathering interest for the season ahead.

Special mention needs to go to Donald MacMullin, Alexis Edwards, Lauren Stefaniuk, Vincent Su, Brandi Babitt, Diana Tapnio for planning and delivering the event.
